Stories
If you’re a candidate for a job, you too should prepare for a behavioral interview. That means you need to be able to share stories that relate your past experiences to skills or traits that a potential employer seeks.
As a first step, spend some time researching the firm or organization’s core values. Anticipate questions that relate directly to those values. Next, try to obtain as much information as you can about the position and the skills it requires. And finally, think back upon your own experiences and craft stories that demonstrate your own competencies and skills.
Throughout your preparation for a behavioral interview, keep in mind the following acronym: STAR (Situation/Task, Action, Results). You want to be able to comfortably discuss a Situation or Task you faced, the Actions you took, and the Results that obtained.
