Starting Work With Passion
Warren Buffet's advice to new hires & interns
When you see 82-year-old, grey-haired man, few people think “passion.” But that’s exactly the word Oracle of Omaha Warren Buffet has been tossing around lately.
Last weekend, in an address to the annual shareholders meeting, Buffet said he remains as passionate about investing and running Berkshire Hathaway as he ever was. When a meeting participant suggested he had lost some of his intensity, Buffet countered, “ You have to love something to do well at.”
Since then, Buffet appeared on an online forum with students from more than three dozen colleges where he spoke about business and life. Buffet compared what he does as Chairman and CEO to painting a masterpiece. “I love painting on my canvas,” Buffet said, “and if you’re lucky in life you can find your passion.”
Buffet maintains that when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work. It’s a principle every intern, summer associate and new hire who is starting work should keep in mind this summer as they make the transition from students to professionals.
