If you haven’t seen it already, grab this week’s (09/25/06) Newsweek magazine (or go online to www.newsweek.msnbc.com). Turn to page 78 and immediately read Julie Scelfo’s “10 Power Tips,” success tips written for women and relevant to anyone who wants to succeed in business.
The 10 tips are so simple and so true, I won’t even paraphrase them (though for brevity’s sake I’ve omitted some text):
- Be competitive.
- It’s not about friendship.
- Stand up for yourself.
- Trust your instincts.
- Always project confidence.
- Own your successes.
- Reach out to other women.
- Insist on being well paid.
- It’s OK to make mistakes.
- Be a problem solver.
By the way, I love Sceflo’s quote from Liz Lange, founder of Liz Lange Maternity: “To succeed in business you have to want to win . . . . Too often, women feel they have to be nice. Don’t.” And another quote from Renee Edelman, senior VP of Edelman, is worth posting above your desk: “Women want everyone to like them but it doesn’t really matter what people think of you . . . . It’s that you get the job done and deliver results.”
