Good Enough for Kate

July 13, 2011

I thought the Queen of England and I might just be the last two people on earth to still don hosiery for public appearances. I have no idea why the Queen wears silky leg coverings. In my case, I simply don’t feel professionally attired without them.

But guess what folks? On her recent tour of Canada and the U.S., none other than the world’s latest fashion trendsetter, the Duchess of Cambridge (previously Kate Middleton), was seen walking about in legs that shimmered. Press reports confirmed she was wearing shiny, sheer pantyhose

Resurrecting an old-fashioned fashion staple may be just what the Duchess will succeed in doing. Since her engagement last November, sales of stockings have sky-rocketed. In fact, one British store reports sales of women’s hosiery have risen 40% compared with last year.

Admittedly, on a hot summer day, pulling on a pair of hose may be the last thing any woman intern, summer associate or new hire wants to consider. But trust me on this: a good pair of hose can cover up a multitude of sins, from stubble between leg waxings to poorly applied self-tanning agents. Besides, they can make you look five pounds thinner. Not that Kate needs help with that.
