Fame & Money
In so many of my meetings with recruiting and professional development departments, the conversation eventually turns to Generation Next and the employees now entering today’s workforce. I gather information on this topic constantly, in part because these are the very people who so often attend my programs. And last week, the folks at the Pew Research Center gave us just a little more information about this group.
According to Pew, 81% of 18-25-year-olds said “getting rich” is their top priority and 51% ranked “becoming famous” equally as high. Perhaps this explains a generation’s unending fascination with Paris Hilton Britney Spears, et al.
Perhaps the interest of Nexters in fame and wealth has something to do with the high level of debt so many have incurred. Among graduate students, average debt ranges between $60,000 and $120,000.
