Add A Little Polish

Are you a candidate getting ready for an on-campus interview? If so, use the day before your first interview to prepare for the big event.

Start by selecting the clothes you plan to wear. Even if the company or firm with which you will be interviewing boasts a casual dress policy, it’s better for you to dress more conservatively than informally. You want any interviewer to focus on what you’re saying, not on your dress. Take a good look at any suit, shirt or blouse and tie that you intend to wear. Make sure that your interviewing outfit is clean, crisply ironed, no buttons are missing and hems are thoroughly tacked.

Don’t forget to pull out your shoes, too. Any shoes you wear to an interview should be well polished. Take a quick glance and make sure the heels have not been worn down.  Ladies, nothing looks tackier than high heels that bear the scars of sidewalk nicks.  In case of an emergency, carry a small bottle of black nail polish and cover up those nicks before your interview.

Finally, take a good look at your haircut.  Before you interview, make sure your haircut is neat and trim. Opt for a style that keeps hair off your face throughout the course of your interview.
