A Tectonic Shift
As the Millennials begin entering the workforce, offices around the country are learning how to adjust to the wants and needs of this new generation. Millennials are in search of work places that are green, diverse, and provide options that help ensure work-life balance. Employers are quickly seeking ways to speak to the generation’s needs.
Not surprisingly, beyond the work place it looks like the advent of the Millennials will impact the larger world. John Zogby, head of Zogby International, among the nation’s most respected polling entities, has recently authored “The Zogby Report on the Transformation of the American Dream.” Zogby writes that the emergence of the Millennials (he calls the generation “the First Globals”) represents a tectonic shift in American attitudes. Zogby predicts that this future American majority will be less materialistic, less tolerant of baloney, more practical and more linked to the rest of the world.”
While many Boomer Bosses complain that the Millennials are self-centered; in my own experience nothing is further from the truth. And like me, Zogby appears extremely optimistic about the Millennials. “At long last,” the pollster predicts, “cynicism bottoms out!”
