Take a Break
May 21, 2008
According to a recent survey commissioned by Access America, a travel insurance company, only 33 percent of Americans plan to take a summer trip this year. That’s a significant drop from the 40 percent of Americans who planned a break when summer 2006 approached.
With an economy teetering on the edge of recession, lots of employees undoubtedly question whether a summer break is a wise move. If you are one of them, here’s my recommendation: Find some time to sneak away. Nearly everyone I know needs a little time to decompress—to walk away from their everyday work day worries. A few days away from the office will allow most employees to return to work renewed and refreshed. Issues that had once seemed nearly insurmountable may suddenly become readily resolvable.
If this year’s vacation budget is seriously limited, stay close to home. Even if you do nothing other than sit around your house or apartment and reorganize your personal treasures, I think you’ll find the change of pace to be a healthy one.
