Summer Attire

August 01, 2012

Starting work this summer? Don’t even think about wearing torn jeans into work.

That’s the biggest take-away from a survey about appropriate summertime workplace attire released last week by Adecco USA, a job placement firm. Nearly 80% of respondents described holey jeans as being inappropriate at work. Large percentages also opposed office outfits that include strapless tops or dresses (72%), backless tops or dresses (72%), and short or mini-skirts (69%).

As to Mark Zuckerberg’s fashion statement hoodie, 65% of respondents say they are inappropriate at work.

Fully 76% of respondents said workers should save their flip flops for the beach.  With regards to wearing sneakers to work, respondents were almost evenly split with 56% not willing to label them as inappropriate for work.

The Adecco survey also asked respondents about behaviors they see at work. I can’t say the results surprise me. Respondents said workers shouldn’t bite or clip their nails in the office. They also want fellow workers to keep their shoes on. As to tattoos, 27% of respondents said workers should wear outfits to work that cover them up.
