“Frankly, my dear . . .
June 11, 2006
Turns out folks in your office would probably prefer that you complete that sentence with the words “I don’t give a flying fig” (over “damn”). According to a survey undertaken by Randstad USA, a workforce solutions company, profane language is the rudest behavior workers commonly encounter.
Here are the top five rude behaviors that Randstad says bother us most:
- Using profanity (91%)
- Speaking in a condescending manner to other office workers (44%)
- Reprimanding others publicly (36%)
- Micromanaging others (34%)
- Talking loudly (32%)
Other behaviors that drive us up the wall include: ringing cell phones; using speaker phones in public places; undertaking personal conversations in the office; and using PDA’s in meetings.
If you’ve just entered the workforce, watch your language. Using profanity may be interpreted by others as plain rudeness, a lack of maturity or an inability to handle stress.
