Commit!

January 30, 2006

This month, I’ve committed to sharing strategies to help you achieve any goals you might have set for the New Year. So far, here’s what we’ve covered.

Strategy 1: Make sure the goal is something you truly want to achieve.
Strategy 2: Make sure the goal is consistent with your personal values.
Strategy 3: Make sure your goals are in balance.
Strategy 4: Use positive language.
Strategy 5: Be specific.
Strategy 6: Set stretch goals.

Here’s the seventh strategy: Commit your goals to paper and post them.

There’s truth to the adage “A goal is just a dream until it’s written down.” As soon as you are ready to commit to a goal—something that you truly wish to achieve and that is consistent with your personal values—grab pen and paper or scoot off to your computer and commit your goals to paper. Post your listing of goals in a place where you will periodically see it. Challenge yourself to measure progress on a regular basis.
